When you thought you’d missed out

Shed’s has been responsible for some of the most interesting berlin & detroit influenced house/techno and dubstep over the past few years, his output never seems to fault always bringing out top quality product. For those of you who didn’t manage to grab hold of all of his Equalized project on wax, today’s your lucky day, as it’s being released on convenient CD compilation called Equalized #111. Only the bestd deep detroit style 909 grooves and delay and reverb soaked analogue synth stabs to sooth you into your late night dancing schedule.

Cop a listen here.

Fin

Just had to share this one real quick, a Finnish producer called Desto, highly recomended by Teeth (signed to 502 recordings and who smashed apart the boiler room a few weeks back). Desto’s got tunes for days so check his soundclound. 2011 is gonna be massive for both him and Teeth.

Have you heard my mixtape? 002 : Manni Dee

HYHMM:002MannieDee

Recently we were lucky enough to catch up with Manni Dee a talented young leftfield producer out of Brighton for the second installment of our “Have you heard my mixtape?” mix series. His own works are glitchy, wonky, bent and deeply cosmic explorations into your 8bit psyche, sounding something like the love child of an MPC 1000 and your old broken NES that always seemed to freeze on the last level. And with the guys behind Lucky Me calling his sound “Big” and with plenty of backing online backing 2011 is going to be a massive year for this talent young Producer/DJ.

My united K of whatever

ghost

Maybe its the lack of ego, the realism or the melancholy stripped down electronic beats it’s hard to resist of the charms of Ghost Poet’s debut album Peanut Butter Blue and Melancholy Jam. As we enter the world of your modern day twenty something year old striving for the simple life, Ghost Poet reflects many of the woes of the post recession climate and the urban struggle that confronts anyone with dreams of living their artist dreams in a big city. Relocated from Coventry to London Obaro Ejimiwe is simply a man with some stories to tell, and that he does, lost loves, blurred life direction, overdrafts and post hangover self loathing, these are real the worries expressed in an honest down to earth way that is seldom found in the hip hop world.

SWAMP014

sicko

Loefah’s imprint SWAMP 81 can do no wrong, or so it seems at the moment. If you’ve seen or have been rinsing any mixes from Bok Bok, Oneman, Jackmaster, Boddika, or Ramadanman lately no down you’ve heard a track that is going by the name “Sicko Cell”, unreleased and produced by an anonomous London producer a lot of mystery has been buidling around this track. The hyponotic chanting of “I’m the information/Cocaine Powder” hits hard, big 808s and a stunning pitched vocal, airy synth break down, this is one to keep you banging through summer.

So I was lucky enough to catch up with an up and coming producer by the name of Bobby Tank, pushing the boundaries of glitch hop with his post dubstep hybrids. I smell big things cooking for him in 2011 Watch this space and enjoy the interview…..

Lil Wayne – Fireman (Bobby Tank Remix) by BobbyTank

So where does the name Bobby Tank come from?

Ahh yes well ‘Tank’ is my surname (actually spelt Taank, see what i did there..ha!). ‘Bobby’ is my nick name that was given to me at birth, due to my cranium being slightly excessive in proportion 2 the rest of my body, It seemed fairly unstable and would ‘Bob’ around ha. ha. The rest im sure u can work out though i can assure you that (he that shall not be named) who nick named me, him and i do not share the same ‘creativity’ gene…

Lofi chaotic melodramatics

tear

In a world of crystal clear digital sound, remastering, re-edits and HD visuals its easy to get carried away … Often I find it’s the imperfections in the detail that make something special, in the words of some french disco freaks we are human after all, aren’t we? We all make mistakes, nothing is perfect and even if you think it is, it doesn’t take long to have a closer look and realize everything and everyone is flawed in there own little way, but that’s what makes us special. Right?

Back to the roots

Coin
Now I know this blog is dedicated to experimental electronic beats, but with this in mind I think there’s always a bit of room for a bit of decent hip hop here since it all stems from hip hop, loops and beats in the purest sense.

Now while American commercial club rap has been taking a machete to Hip Hop for a good while now, UK and Aussie Hip Hoppers and producers seem to have always kept the soul and spirit of Hip Hop alive since the early 90s. Which is where this amazing new album I stumbled across on the book of face comes into it. It’s not that often I hear hip hop these days that knocks me back, but a duo from the small isolated city of Perth, Australia Coin & Taku have brought back the soul, funk and word play that got me into hip hop from the beginning, pure simple and beautiful. Be warned you’ll be thinking summer couldn’t be here sooner after listening to this bad boy. On the Free DL, enjoy.

Can you give jumper man a braingazim?

anime

He’s cult status has got him air play on the BBC and he’s been described as a sonic warrior who uses a lone bamboo shoot to craft his unique anime inspired “nerdified beats” …. by golly I couldn’t really think of a better way of putting it myself. With a fairly extensive catalogue of chopped, spangled and zonk-a-fyed beats it makes you wonder why this guy isn’t bigger than he is. To be honest I think Mussck’s talent speaks for it’s self have a listen, nuf said.

Mussck was nice enough to throw a free track our way. So Enjoy and check his soundcloud for hours of streaming pleasure.

…in a nutshell

1

There’s no doubt 2010 was an absolutely massive year for electronic music Dubstep, UK Funky and Techno had all kinds of inbred mutating babies who don’t really have bionafied names yet, garage and off beat wonky hip hop continued to flourish and evolve as influences spread across the globe. Not to mention an almost final nail was hammered into the coffin of vinyl records with the official death of the industry standard Technics SL-1200 turntable just 38 years after it’s birth by Panasonic in 1972 (despite increasing sales of vinyls in the UK in alone), tear jerking stuff!!

Now it’s not my intention to summarize “the best” tracks of 2010 as many other blogs/magazine and website do but rather to share with you 20 of my favourite forward thinking electronics tracks of 2010.

Mister Onomous. "Saucy" Puppet Master, Full-time Mo Wrangler, Beat Fondler and Boom Bap Expert. Never one to shy away from a dirty gin martini and a side of crumpets.

Robin Would. Peregrine correspondent, billionaire playboy-in-training, amateur hand model and resident techno zealot. Always the consummate gentleman, he also displays a penchant for an unabashed bassline and a fine scotch.
