It doesn’t surprise me that the UK produces some of the best experimental and ambient artist’s coming out these days, Burial, Four Tet, Autechre, Square Pusher, Boxcutter, Ceephax, Aphex Twin, Plan B and Floating Points to name a few…
…before I go on here’s a tune to keep you going… (Press Play Now!)
Walking around London the last few weeks I’ve come to notice something…. a void that surfaces during the winter months and seeps from grey skies, the short days and the cold, dirty post war buildings. Sometimes when you just sit and watch I find you drift off into this void amoungst the hustle and bustle, the sirens and the preoccupied faces you detach from everyone and everything and feel alone in a kind of urban mediation…
I think it is this feeling of being alone, lost and drifting in a giant busy city that helps us connect with something else…. an energy, a life force or even just the motivation to create something to express ourselves, what ever you want to call it.
This week I found myself listening to
Of course this isn’t unique to London at all, all large cities seem to have the necessary building blocks and nutrients to sustain musical growth… maybe it’s the large population of creative people, the ever going physical and emotional rollercoaster of high’s and low, the lack of money to distract you or maybe its some deeper urban energy that follows within us….
Anyway the main reason for this post was to share with you the tune your currently listening too….. I hope you like it, it’s called “Moth”, a co-lab by two of my favourite UK ambient/experimental artists, Four Tet and Burial.
It’s a vinyl only release that came out earlier in the year so it’ll probably be pretty hard to get hold of, but rumour has it that Boomkat might be getting a few more copies in soon….. fingers crossed.
And if your lucky you might even hear it at Plastic people this Friday the 11th as Four Tet is playing an epic all night set!

Oh and here’s one more track to keep you drifting thru the night… hopefully it’ll bring back some memories for ya….
